Leading under pressure – how to manage emotions intelligently

Being a leader today means not only managing tasks, projects, and change, but also operating under constant pressure, uncertainty, and overload. It also means dealing with your own emotions and those of others.

During the session, we’ll explore how to use emotions as an important source of information, regulate them effectively, and at the same time protect our own resources from chronic stress, overstimulation, and burnout.

After the session, participants will know:

  • How to understand their own emotions and use the information they provide – why we have emotions in the first place, what they are trying to tell us, and how to distinguish between what we feel and what we do under the influence of those emotions.
  • How to regulate emotions and protect their own resources – how to deal with uncertainty and anxiety, frustration and anger, and how to recognize the point at which ordinary tiredness starts turning into overload, overstimulation, and emotional burnout.
  • How to manage emotions in relationships with others – how to respond to the emotions of employees, clients, and stakeholders, when it is worth showing your own emotions and when it is better to keep them to yourself, and how to support others without absorbing and taking on the emotions of everyone around you.

“Leading through uncertainty” – how to act when we don’t have all the answers

Uncertainty has become a constant part of a leader’s work – priorities, technologies, customer expectations, and business conditions are changing, often faster than we are able to anticipate.

During the session, we’ll explore how to maintain a sense of agency in a changing reality, make good decisions despite incomplete information, and help others navigate change without promising them certainty that we ourselves do not have.

After the session, participants will know:

    • How to build their own resilience to uncertainty and change – how to work with the natural need for control, regain a sense of influence, and instead of focusing solely on threats, recognize the opportunities that come with change.
    • How to make good decisions without having the full picture – how to separate facts from assumptions, act despite not having all the data, and distinguish the quality of a decision from the quality of its outcome.
    • How to guide others through change and uncertainty – how to communicate what we know and what we do not yet know, build engagement without making false promises, and work with emotional reactions to change: resistance, frustration, anxiety, and the loss of a sense of control.
